I dream of a world where all communities live with peace and good health—where inequalities are reduced for the benefit of all, especially the most vulnerable. In such a world, war and conflicts do not exist. Communities live continuously in harmony and always have access to quality healthcare services. In my dream world, populations are not marginalized because of their so-called poverty conditions. Anyone
can possess all the resources required for their and their family’s well-being.
I grew up in Burkina Faso, a country striving towards improving access to healthcare for its population. After graduating from university, I started working as a medical doctor in a rural hospital where I noticed a lack of basic medical equipment. To do an ultrasound exam, my patients had to travel almost 100 kilometers to another city, implying additional costs for them; same problems for X-rays, CT-scans, and so on. Also, some patients could not afford to pay for prescribed medicines due to their low economic conditions. Based on these experiences, I realized that working on preventing diseases’ occurrences would be our best option. This is why I decided to focus my impact on the field of public health.
In addition, during my lifelong journey, I have seen how wars and conflicts were big threats to people’s peace of mind and well-being. Indeed, in countries and regions where peace was compromised, only chaos and fear resided among the populations. My international experience working with young professionals from diverse backgrounds helped me realize that this was not an isolated situation. Populations from across the globe were experiencing inequalities, and anyone was at risk of losing their peace of mind and well-being. That is when I began to dream of a world where all those issues were non-existent. And as a result, peace, health, and well-being were permanent for all inhabitants of the world.
I strongly believe that my dream is POSSIBLE if young leaders begin to get directly involved in the decisions that could have a negative impact on global, national, and local communities. I believe young leaders have the responsibility to spread the words of peace, health, and well-being in their communities and anywhere they go. Young leaders from all over the world, come to join me so that we make the world a better place.
