What I Can Do with My Privilege

Out of all the countries in the world, the fact that I was born and raised in Sweden, a safe place with a high level of environmental awareness, is a privilege in itself. Because of this privilege of starting off in this country, I believe I can make an impact on environmental issues around the world.

The people of Sweden are very aware of the risks of not taking action to maintain a sustainable environment. We understand what will happen to the Earth if the situation remains unchanged. School plays an important role in our understanding of this, as the Swedish education system puts a lot of focus on the environment.

I want to work with sustainable innovation that creates value for both the environment and people. Sustainable innovation could make both the climate and our living conditions better. While a graduate student at the Chalmers University of Technology with this as my philosophy, I partnered with a few other students and two researchers who had developed a reversible textile coloring method to help make the textile industry more circular. This means that instead of discarding clothing, the cloth can be re-colored again and again, reborn into something new. We then become able to rethink mass consumption and have discussions about resource conservation.

I want to create a successful company that uses these technologies to work for the environment by bringing about change in people. This is my primary dream, but I know it is just as important to inspire more women so that they believe they can take on leadership roles. I want to become an example of that. I am an open-minded and curious person who has been able to seize various opportunities, unafraid of making mistakes. I will continue to enthusiastically challenge myself to create a more sustainable and better world!
