According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, food, sleep, and water takes the bottom, the first place, and they are followed by security. Fortunately, I have always been the lucky one who could reach my prior necessities, unlike billions of people. However, I have ever had problems with my second basic need as a human being: security. As a person who was born in the center of Istanbul, I was always a member of drove. I was going to school every day and came back home. I had a very everyday life that many people aspire. Then, the bombing to crowded places started, and immediately the peaceful atmosphere of the city disappeared and left millions anxious, and scared. I remember that my parents didn’t let me meet with my friends in malls or cafes since ISIL was targeting crowded places. My security was in danger, but I used to think that this was normal and that everyone in the world experiences it daily. During the summer of 2018, I had a chance to go to Italy for a volunteer camp that meets people from different European countries. I could meet new people and listen to their stories, including where they live, and what they do. Our night-long conversations opened up my eyes and showed me that the conflicted area I live in does not reflect the normal, and this ongoing conflict should be ended. After that life-changing experience, when I went back to Turkey, I saw no one taking action or trying to change this order of us living in danger 24/7. This laxness of people made me decide to take action and aim to make my city and country peaceful again as its the old days. However, I had to have more information and experience about conflicts to come up with a permanent and effective solution. With this aim on my mind, I decided to go to Israel, the heart of the conflict, to bring a change to the world, while my peers were enjoying their life in Turkey with their families. I dream of a world where every human being can access their basic needs regardless of their sex, race, or religion. I dream of changing this ongoing system of the world, which powerfully oppresses others. I dream to decrease the number of people who are forced to live under those threatening systems with the power of education and my experiences in different conflicted areas.
