A journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step

In order to achieve something you must have visualized in your head how you want to handle it no matter how hard it may be. My dream is to be in a country where depending on other countries in the health sector is not an option.

For a very long time people who are diagnosed with very serious illnesses like leukemia cannot get proper healthcare since there is no proper equipment to handle their cases. Our patients have to travel abroad incurring all the travelling and upkeep costs just to ensure they are taken care of well. Some people even end up losing their lives because they cannot afford to fund the treatment abroad. This is why I see the importance of improving our own medical equipments and machines in order to make my country a nice home with proper healthcare.

What I have also come to know is that there are some machines in our hospitals which are not in use reason being we have inadequate skilled workmanship to operate those machines. Ever since I was a little child, I had always dreamed to become an engineer. An engineer who can make a difference in her people’s lives. I went through primary school then on to high school where I even managed to attend STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) workshops in order to make gradual steps in ensuring I achieve my dream. In 2019, I enrolled in the Technical University of Mombasa where I am now pursuing Bachelors in Medical Engineering. This step helped me become more apt as I know I will be able to acquire enough skills in this particular field in order to add the number.

I also intend to voice out my thoughts by joining medical related bodies like the Association of Medical Engineering in Kenya, where we can interact as students and youth on how we can make our country a home, with good and proper medical treatment. I also believe in the power of many. By this I mean that I am already creating awareness to my friends, colleagues and even in my socials to make them understand why we need to build our economy more so in the health sector because our health is our life. By 2030, I believe that our medical healthcare will have improved and my dream will become reality.
