A world where we, girls have the right to see dreams.
I was born in a middle-class Hindus family in Bangladesh. My name is Tuli which means color or paintbrush in English. My dream is to draw a pair of wings for every girl to fly toward their dream. I also wanna draw a free sky for every girl to see and dream freely. Because without dream life is like colorless black and white. I wanna bring color in every girl’s life.
When I was a girl of 19, I witnessed an incident. An incident of a girl who just graduated. Her dream was to be an independent woman. She wanted to get a job and stand on her feet. When she took preparation to fly toward her dream, in the meantime her father got a good marriage proposal for her. So he didn’t care about her dream and tried to fix her marriage because she was 25 years old girl.
According to her father, if she were a boy, age didn’t matter to him and he would give time for dream. But she was a girl and he also claimed that he gave her lot time for her dream. So he couldn’t give her more time. But that was not true because without a graduation degree none can’t get a good job and she had just completed it. I felt so surprised at that time how could age is a barrier between a girl and her dream! So we, she and I raised our voices for her dream. After that her father gave her 2 years for her dream. And she did her best and got a job in a primary school.
Now she leads a very happy married life. Like her, there are many girls in the world who cannot get a chance to fulfill their dreams even though they don’t have the right to see dream. There are many developing countries where girl is treated only a burden. Even they cannot go to school as they will eventually get married and it will be a waste of money for their patents. But a girl’s education is not only empowers families but also communities and economies and girls have the power to take the world to a better tomorrow. So my dream is to create and live in a world where gender inequality doesn’t exist and girls get their basic human rights such as education, health care etc. and also get a chance to fly towards their dream.
Sharing my dream with all of you is my first step towards my dream of creating a world where all have right to see dream and no existence of gender inequality. Tuli Sikder
