My dream is to create a renewed homeland with our own hands, just like the late poet of our wonderful equatorial island Alda Espirito Santo once said. Alda was the first Santomean woman to become president of the National Assembly in Africa. She also wrote the national anthem and authored many opinions on the struggle for liberation from colonial rule. She was undoubtedly the guiding force behind my actions and left me with her grace.
This was the beginning of taking the struggle seriously and adapting to the signs of the times. Opportunities arose, and I was lucky enough to lead a number of youth structures. My current work as a One Young World Peace Ambassador is one example.
Being a leader is not something that comes out of nowhere. It takes effort, sacrifice, and finding the opportunity to make your dreams come true.
I am a dreamer who does not give up and will defy the winds of torment! My dream is based on the will to make things happen and the will to serve. I believe that we the youth are the protagonists of a world in metamorphosis. We must keep the flame of hope alive as our colossal will realizes our dreams.
Through some humanitarian organizations I represent in Sao Tome and Principe, I have contributed to improving our population’s living conditions. This includes social support, constructing social houses, periodic medical consultations, aid in the form of scholarships for thousands of young people at home and abroad, as well as creating a referral hospital unit to respond to the country’s diverse health needs.
The current problems of the world can be solved if we understand each other. To do this, we need to educate people so that we know what we want for ourselves and future generations.
I believe that barriers must be broken, fear overcome, and we must believe that we are and always will be able to realize our dreams. We must believe in ourselves and our skills. So, let’s take the first step today and start walking. We will transcend the silence of the times and make our dreams come true!
