One simple root for development, is gender equality

I believe everyone have their own dream, and No dream is too big. And this is my story.

As a daughter in a middle-income family, when I was just a high school girl, I experienced many hard times that push me to give up on studying. One of the main reasons is, the traditional mindset, which limited about a woman in learning opportunities. The girl did not need higher education because they will end up doing housework at home.

Moreover, poverty is another factor in female education. Most girl in the low-income family must drop out their school to go to work. Anyway, women also got isolated in social activities. All these impacts had pushed me down so hard, but fortunately, my family have cheered me up and they also try to support my tuition and living expenses to persuade my dream.

From that day on I do not want my daughter to experience those hard times as one I use to. Women should be a big part of the country’s development and education system. Now, I am so grateful that hard-working would never disappoint me.

Since 2016, I have joined the central bank with other approximately 600 female staff. All those year in the financial sector, I have learned that gender equality really impacts the country’s economy. Women really have an important role in the financial system, and the government also thought the same.

Recently, gender is promoted while it has female learning in the Cambodian financial inclusion plan 2025. In the article indicate financial literacy, especially for housewife whose role as the financial keeper in one family.

Furthermore, women in technology are more noticeable while this information technology sector are normally popular among male staff in the past. All these circumstances show us the change of woman’s position in society. But it is just a start of a long way. Then, what is my individual plan on this matter?

Firstly, I want to pursue my master’s degree abroad. I will show the world that strong manner could achieve their dream no matter what gender they hold. Moreover, I want to share my expertise to the other staff the help the whole organization growth. Without doubt I would be a part of woman empowerment in financial sector and team up with other staff to promote financial literacy in Cambodia and gender equality for better development outcomes.
