We are not all alone

At this moment when I can attend school and have enough to eat, there are many people in the world who do not have access to them.
When I was 10, I first learned about the problem of poverty in the world, and I felt strongly that “I want to be a person who works for others.” It was the first clear dream that was born in my young mind.
As I majored in policy studies at university and learned about various current situations of social issues, I started to realize the importance that people pay attention to the problems and consider them as if they were their own.
In order to focus on and be concerned about the issues, we need to have an opportunity to know about those. That’s why I began to think I would like to engage in activities to highlight these issues.
In 2022, I decided to participate in the beauty contest held in my college as one way of communicating.
In this contest, contestants are judged on their beauty, including their inner beauty, through their activities during the six-month period of the contest and their performance in the final event.
Whenever I felt worries and heartbroken during the contest period, what saved me was the loving kindness and support of many people. I entered the contest with the idea that “I want to support people” in mind, but through this experience, I’ve come to strongly realize that I live with the support of many people.
“Nothing can be accomplished by one person. That’s why we are not all alone.” I learned such an obvious but very important lesson through this contest.
“To be a bridge that connects people to people and people to thoughts.” This is my current dream. I want to bring the voices and thoughts of people who are in the minority in society, and who want to spread their thoughts and feelings, but are not able to do so to as many people as possible. Through this, I want to contribute to the realization of the society in which no one feels alone.
To reach out to others. To invlolve in the life stories of others. It takes courage to get involved with others. With a little courage and compassion, I believe that the circle of mutual cooperation will expand, and the world will surely be filled with more kindness and warmth.
Our power may be small, but we are not powerless. I continue to believe in my own power, small as it may be, I will go step-by-step towards my dream.
