A HAPPIEST SPIRITUALLY EDUCATED WELL EQUIPPED HERR

My happiest childhood memories are those spent with my younger sister, remembering how we went to the same primary school and how she could come to me for any help in reading, spelling a word or even a math problem, I was always happy to help.

I grew up having her as the most friend I played and interacted with. Starting from learning the importance of sharing toys, food and even praying for her when she had a headache. When I felt the problem was out of my control to help her, I believed in a higher power which is God to intervene where I couldn’t and when our faith was in agreement we would go back to our playing.

I learnt to value sisterhood, friendship and God because of her. Going to university in Malawi is a privilege especially for girls. A lot of girls drop out at an early stage of school as due to poverty and lack of career guidance. I went to a private university to study engineering in computer science but the thought of knowing another girl cannot be as privileged as I was, broke my heart. I felt the need to do more and the problem seemed bigger than me but when I prayed over it, I got strength and was accompanied by friends who wanted to a part of something bigger than them.

I founded an organization called Kuwala Christian Organization where we go to primary and secondary schools empowering girls to have goals to attain higher quality education even in male-dominated fields, give them stationery and sanitary pads, encourage them to believe in God for their purpose in life, promote sisterhood among them and most importantly for them to be happy. I plan to have branches in every district to embrace this concept of sisterhood, that every girl deserves a sister to lookout for her educational, spiritual and wellbeing needs.

I believe when girls come together, great things happen. We might not all be biologically related but we come from the same creator God and that makes us spiritually connected. We all need to be a sister’s keeper. I have a dream that she is the happiest, depends on God, believes that knowledge is power and she looks after the wellbeing of the next girl.
