TRANSFORMED FACES, LIVING THEIR LIVES TO THE FULLEST

I was born in a peasant family in the interior of Mozambique, and I spent a hard childhood, without toys, computers, books and grew up seeing squalid children looking at me anxiously, as if they were looking at a lost treasure. Years have passed, I left my community in precarious conditions until the capital of the country to increase my level of education, where I am attending university. Along the paths, I saw sad men, perspiring dry sweat, who watched me in agony, praying in silence for someone to help their children left in poverty.

I listened to patients who did not need medicine so much, but food, to the point of satiating their hunger. Now, people are tired of the misery and in the forgotten looks, there is a lot of desperation. Only the grove of overwhelming poverty contemplates communities, entering pale ruins.

Ever since I was a boy, I always wondered what to do to change this reality? The answer I had in my dream: to see poverty eradicated.

After some time, they soon presented me with the dissolution of my dream, where in the visits to the communities, my dream eluded a smile, became lonely and left me lying on the floor, in the same place where it fell. Now, I see equality and citizenship, hunted by mysterious glances, of people who sell ambition in a public square.

My country has the highest rates of premature marriages in the world, affecting almost one in two girls, with the second highest rate in East and Southern Africa. They are not numbers, they are children and girls. 48% of them in my country, have been or are married before the age of 18.

In this reality, there are things from my childhood that I wanted to forget. Married girls suffering violence and neglect. No child should grow up like that. This is the reason that since 2017 I have been carrying out Projects in schools and communities, with the aim of seeing communities without poverty, violence, premature marriages, and the participation of women in sustainable development.

My dream is to embark for a generation without poverty, hunger and unnecessary suffering. Living in a community that can provide all its citizens with an equal right to live their lives to the full. All of this without harming the planet.
