The Future is Born in a Classroom

I believe that education is the only way to change minds and nations. My dream is to become a teacher who can change lives. Teaching is not just a profession—it’s a passion. Teachers are the change agents of society because they are the pioneers of future generations.

My father died when I was an infant, and due to societal pressure, my mother got re-married to a very violent man. Thus, I had no choice but

to live away from my mother, moving from one relative’s house to another. I was a child who had no childhood, living through the pain and suffering after being traumatized at 5 years old. I have been on the brink of suicide more than once. I know how orphans and less privileged children feel when quality education is out of their reach. It is for these children that I became an educator. But there were many hurdles in the way of my own studies. I paid for all my university expenses on my own through part-time jobs. The support of my uncle’s family, who eventually took me in, also helped me get through school. After graduating, my passion for teaching and hard work paid off when I got a job in a well-known organization. I was sent to a school in the remote area of Sindh, Pakistan, as a teaching support associate. Currently, I am working as a UN Civic Education Volunteer.

One of the most memorable moments of my career happened during my stay in Sindh. There was a very bright student, and I noticed her grades were dropping. When I asked why, I learned that her parents were forcing her to get married. I called her parents and tried to convince them otherwise, and somehow they let her continue her studies. This whole scenario made me realize that many children might be suffering from similar situations. And each situation can be even worse for orphaned children. This pushed me even harder to work toward realizing my dream.

I don’t want anyone to suffer as I suffered during my childhood. Children do not need to feel left alone in this chaotic world. They should see that the world hasn’t ended for them.

I want to give back to the community I live in and make society a better place for all who are suffering and don’t have the means to make their lives better. Classrooms decide the future of nations. Keeping this belief in mind, I dream of standing among people who invest their energy in education to make their nations prosperous.
