We Still Have Time

Earth is a miracle. The Mediterranean Sea, the Alps, Plitvice Lakes National Park. These are all one of a kind. Now imagine Earth never existed. Or worse, it existed, but not anymore.

I love nature, from scary sharks to giant sequoias. It fills me with indescribable joy and energy, and I rarely take pictures because I like to be in that moment. Unfortunately, it seems I should change that habit because climate change is progressive, and something that was there yesterday might not be tomorrow. Will I be able to show my future kids these beautiful sights, or just tell them stories?

The population is growing and we must move forward, but we can do it in more sustainable and environmentally friendly ways. As a passionate cyclist, I always think about how better it would be if we all rode bicycles. I also try to buy clothes as seldom as possible, and when I do, I buy from local manufacturers to support small businesses. I try to make this my daily mentality because my dream is to realize a world where everyone can find happiness without destroying Planet Earth. Unfortunately, this kind of thinking is not yet widespread in Croatia (although the situation is getting better). This should be implemented in the educational system so people can learn these things from an early age, and I want to contribute.

I’m an optimist. I believe we still have time as there are good examples worldwide, from new ecological materials to renewable energy sources, with new technologies put to use every day. Plus, nature was positively impacted by the global COVID-19 lockdowns, as people all over the world had to stop their activities to control the pandemic. This should make it clear that so much can still be done. No matter how small, if we start with an environmentally friendly mentality, encourage others, and speak out, we can make a change!
