The Strength to Survive an Imperfect Future

One day, a middle school boy and his mom came to me. The reason is that his grades were at the bottom of his class, so he might not be able to enter high school. His parents did all they could to help by scheduling extra courses with a personal tutor, but he did not make progress and got tired of taking any lessons. Still, he and his parents always argued.

Poor focus made him easily distracted by phones. I thought those steps and routine could help: reading, exercise, and journaling. It was a huge challenge for both of us. He worked hard to fulfil the promise that he was moving in a better direction while I adjusted the studying plan. After a month, his grades began to improve. He knew he still had a long way to go, but he also realized giving himself one chance was more valuable than ten excuses. A year later, he passed the high school entrance exam. All he needed was stronger willpower, a way to see his progress, and the faith that one chance could make a difference.

My dream is to promote education that prepares young people for the obstacles and difficulties in the future. I experienced elementary and middle school in China, and high school in America. Both Chinese and American principals say that everyone is born equal, must have dreams, and our dreams will come true if we work hard enough. Educators always talk about the importance of showing kids society’s positive side so that they grow up to be mentally fit people. But is that all there is to it? Even children understand unfairness. I experienced bullying in elementary school and racism when I went to the US to study, and I wish someone would have told me about those things in advance. If you are not ready to face the negativity and disappointments of society, you might get upset, panic, or even develop depression. To address this situation, I started my own education and culture company in 2019.

I could not wait any longer for someone else to create the world I dreamed about. Although the future is unpredictable, I want to influence people through mental education.

I will never have the unrealistic dream of a utopia. No matter what we do, pain and difficulty will always be there. I wish for everyone to prepare for those challenges at a young age by practicing focus, building a good body, and understanding that even though the world is imperfect, our courage can help us make our lives perfect.
