Dreams Don’t Stop, No Matter the Detour

If you believe in your dream and your strengths, anything is possible.

When I was a child, I always thought about my future. I wanted to be a diplomat and work in the international community. Or maybe a jurist, because I loved the thought of protecting the rights of each man. Anyway, I ended up studying economics, something that had little to do with those dreams. I felt it wasn’t my place. Where is my job? What is my mission? I was so lost in everything that I almost lost the will to live, too.

A turning point came while I was working on my master’s degree. I had the opportunity to participate in international conferences, like the Model UN, and realized you don’t have to be a diplomat to work with the international community. In 2019, I attended the One Young World Summit. I was particularly struck by Dr. Jane Goodall’s words, “The loss of one species can cause a ripple effect that leads to the destruction of an entire ecosystem.” Regardless of where you live, figure out what you have to do and do it. It could affect the whole world. That was when I found my path.

My dream is to improve Kazakhstan’s global status by cooperating with different countries. To get there, I want to integrate my research with my practice and apply it to the youth’s benefit. At age 27, I became a PhD. student in economics, and I continue to investigate the innovations available to Kazakhstan. I’m also writing a dissertation about my country’s tourism industry. If we can promote tourism and bring in international youth, we can grow Kazakhstan into a global education center. This will strengthen its position in the international community and contribute to international youth development and the protection of human rights.

Although I took a detour, I am moving toward my international goals, finding meaning in life with each step.
