An Everyday Hero

Throughout our life, we have always been thirsty for change. And the world we live in gives us more reasons every day—climate change, conflicts, poverty, and various injustices and inequalities. These evils do not date from today, of course, but the internet is helping make them more and more visible.

But most of the time, our thirst for change gives way to frustration, and sometimes resignation, because we do not feel empowered to change the course of things and thus change the world. After all, we have been accustomed to believing that change comes from those with power, be it political, legislative, or economic. We have been taught in history that changes often come from significant events, like revolutions, climatic disasters, pandemics, and the whims of those who have ruled our countries.

I believed in this for a long time until I understood the metaphor of the butterfly effect. A simple flutter of butterfly wings could start a tornado at the other end of the world. In everyday life, this metaphor shows us the complexity, unpredictability, and fragility of our world, as well as how our small acts can be the basis of important changes.

Since then, I have been trying to flap my little butterfly wings every day, in my family life, as a business leader, activist, and motivational speaker. And every time I looked closely, I found that these little actions can make big changes. As an entrepreneur, I co-founded a digital agency, and when I valued the work of a colleague with simple words of recognition, it gave him so much more self-confidence. This led him to excel in his career, help the company achieve better results, improve his income, and create better living conditions for his family—all from simple words of recognition.

This is why I dream of a world where we all learn to be aware of our ability to change the world for the better, every day, through simple acts of kindness, empathy, ecological awareness, professional ethics, and excellence. I dream that we all learn to appreciate our actions through the lens of the butterfly effect, so we can become the everyday heroes we need to build the world of our dreams. Where our small actions can lead us to win the bigger battles like climate change.
