Big things often have small beginnings they said. And I’m this type of person who thinks that no matter how small you start, the magnitude of your success is closely related to your mindset and the actions you take. I’m a young man who was born in Mare-Rouge, a small municipal section of Môle St-Nicolas, from 3 hours 55 mins to Port-au-Prince by car, the capital of Haiti. From a historical point of view, my commune has a significant value since it is here that European civilization, through the navigator Christopher Columbus, first set foot on the land of Haiti. Although my parents didn’t have the chance to finish high school, almost all of my family members have had the chance to attend university thanks to scholarships granted on the basis of merit, in addition to the support of our parents. So even though I come from a modest family, we truly believe in education.
Since the age of 13, community involvement has been one of the pillars of my life. This is why I started to get involved in sports, cultural and social activities in my community. I have served as a radio sportscaster, an interscholastic championship organizer, a children’s summer camp facilitator, a leadership conference organizer and even a novel writer.
In 2019, I was fortunate enough to receive a highly competitive university scholarship at the Haitian Education and Leadership Program (HELP), which allowed me to study Economics at the University of Notre Dame d’Haiti (UNDH) where I currently serve as the President of the Student Government. During my studies, I helped other young people benefit from the HELP scholarship, and continued to be involved with the organization as the president of the HELP Student Committee. In 2020, I co-founded a leadership and entrepreneurship program for school children in my community, and also co-founded a digital platform called MyKolleg. In 2022, I landed Senior Leadership Experience at Banj, Haiti’s first entrepreneurship hub, where I worked on programs related to technology, entrepreneurship, and youth employability.
Throughout my life, I have been fortunate to be around many inspiring people. If these people were in one structure, it would have a very positive impact on Haiti. In fact, I can confirm that the power of commitment and community solidarity would promote strong institutions that can themselves produce change. With my passion added to these findings, I have come finally to cherish the dream of being able to combine entrepreneurship and leadership using technology, community engagement, politics, and inclusion to create strong and innovative structures, institutions, and communities to foster change in Haiti. This is in what I truly believe and what I am willing to dedicate my life to.
