I grew up in a Kokomlemle, a suburb of Accra where everyone knew one another’s personal stories. I lived in a compound house and played a lot with my neighbours. I recall enjoying the simple things of life. I heard a knock on the door one day only to find my friend in tears. she had been sexually molested by an older friend we both knew. She was in shock and feared telling her parents with the thought that she would be beaten.
This encounter shaped my life to this day. My dream is to a leader who would deliver a world where the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls are protected and realized, and where every young person’s potential is fulfilled. Although I left the neighbourhood to a new community when I was 15, I made it my life’s mission to ensure that every move I made was to realize my dream.
All these began to manifest in 2020. I was selected as a Youth Leaders Fellow at the United Nations Population Fund in Ghana where I work with a team to advance the well-being of women, girls and young people ((including people living with disabilities). In June 2020, I was announced as one of the 300 Women Deliver Young Leaders who would be working over the next two years to advance the health and well-being of women and girls.
I was also selected as a Ghana Ambassador at the World Literacy Foundation to help eradicate illiteracy in the world. In my role, I will work to ensure that girls in underprivileged communities in Ghana receive educational resources to support them in learning. On 2nd July 2020, I was selected as part of 20 Young Compact Champions to work to support the work of the Compact for Young People in Humanitarian Action and its members made up of 60 international organizations and NGOs including UNICEF, UNDP, Plan International, Action Aid and Women’s Refugee Commission.
With my networks and access to unlimited resources, I am on course to ensuring that adolescent girls are educated to make informed decisions regarding their sexual and reproductive health, opportunities are created for young people to develop and ensuring that a gender-equal world is achieved.
