Have you ever wondered, how much is $600 worth?
To me, $600 is the origin of my dream: reinventing integrity. The story began with me being a victim of an international scam. A group of people organized a fake conference to take my $600 deposit. I even found a group of 100 other victims, who have lost from hundreds of dollars to thousands of dollars, coming from all over the world. That $600 for some victims is equivalent to years of school fees, months of rent, hours of hard work. $600 is all it takes for those scammers to counterfeit fake conferences and deceive diligent people who are thriving for a better world. In the big picture, this scam is the result of a system that allows fake news, fake data, which can cost the economy billions of dollars that could have been spent on education, food, and healthcare. The world can never achieve sustainability if the resources are being stolen and people’s dreams are being vanished. I believe that one important moral aspect of an intellectual society is being honest. That $600 question has triggered me to question what I could perhaps do to prevent ruthless manipulators from exploiting the misery of others and causing millions and billions of dollars loss in our economy. If the current system does not pave the way for honesty, then we need to create a new one. Is there any technology that can guarantee that every piece of recorded information is strictly accurate and no one can manipulate it? The answer is Blockchain technology. The blockchain is a global, public database using a network of computers to validate the information and record it in the form of a “block” of a chain of previous information. By using blockchain, every piece of data is verified by a network of users, therefore, blockchain is the only technology that can abolish fake news, fake identities and create that trustworthiness for our society. To pursue my dream, I have joined Rakuten Blockchain Lab to build innovations empowered by blockchain. Furthermore, I am also preparing to launch a global blockchain educational organization to spread awareness of how blockchain can rewrite the story of integrity. Blockchain and honesty, together, are the foundation of the sustainable future that we are dreaming of.
