I have always been a dreamer. Since I was a little kid I let my imagination run free—imagining adventures, traveling the world, speaking different languages, and making friends all over the world. When I was 12, I started penpalling with kids all around the globe—from Greece, Mauritius, Japan, and beyond. Thanks to this hobby, I learned English and met so many wonderful people. Fueled by my curiosity, I started traveling the world with my finger on a map, exploring different stories and cultures. I could imagine the world as a happy place where everyone is friends with each other and enjoying themselves. Over the years, my vision expanded into the idea of a thriving planet with thriving people.
Today, climate change is a serious concern, shattering the ecosystem and this vision for so many. How we take care of nature reflects how we take care of ourselves. To manage climate change we need to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Switching to renewable energy will decrease the emissions by 55%. What about the other half? It is mostly linked to the extraction of resources, production, waste creation, and pollution. This is a negative result of the linear economy where we produce cheap, consume fast, and don’t think about where products go once we throw them away. We can change the current situation by getting the best out of what we have—changing the way we produce and consume, shifting to better design, reusing, repairing, and sharing.
I do believe this is possible and we can see glimpses of it worldwide already. I am a co-founder of the sustainability strategy firm MissionC, on a mission to accelerate the transition to a circular economy on a global scale. I am incredibly happy to call my work my calling and my passion.
Imagine green cities full of parks, healthy food from local farmers, sun and wind powering our homes, clothes with stories that last, and technology that makes our lives more comfortable. Imagine responsible companies creating value for everyone so we can focus on what’s important—spending time with loved ones, enjoying adventures, and fulfilling our dreams. Let’s choose a world where our planet, nature, and ecosystem thrive. Because when our planet thrives, we thrive too.
